MARGAO: Goencho Swabhiman Party (GSP) has also condemned the conversion of a land from orchard to settlement made to favour a company at Morjim and also criticised  the hurried and damaging conversions made to the Regional Plan 2021 (RP21) for the benefit of commercial interests.

It may be recalled that Goa Bachao Abhiyan (GBA), Goa Foundation and others had also recently condemned these decisions of the government, particularly the Town and Country Planning Department (TCP) as per the recent notification published in the government gazette.

In a video message aimed at creating awareness amongst the public about what all the TCP had done via this notification and the conversion of 62,000 square metres of land from orchard to settlement at Morjim, GSP President Swapnesh Sherlekar alleged a Minister was responsible for the corruption.

Alleging that hefty commissions were involved in getting this notification passed, Sherlekar also criticised how the government was manipulating the law to allow a private company to get permissions, which it would not have received without this amendment.

Sherlekar also demanded that the government share on what basis it had carried out this notification and if there were any studies done or had the TCP board or other authorities recommended that such changes be made.
