MARGAO: Margao Town Police obtained seven days custody of 46-year-old Azim Ismail Khan from Gogol, who is alleged to have duped people to the tune of around Rs 4 crore in an investment fraud by promising them profitable returns.
It may be recalled that Azim was arrested on May 17 following a complaint from Gulsher Ahmed from Gogol. According to the complainant, Azim had duped Gulsher and his two relatives Khusnud Ali and Mashroof Ahmed to the tune of Rs 2.20 crore.
Police had managed to obtain only three days custody but since banks were closed on Saturday and Sunday no much headway could be achieved and hence police sought more time to which the court granted by extending his police custody by another seven days.
Meanwhile, police have recorded the statements of around 12 people who have accused Azim of duping them too. The total amount that Azim has allegedly collected from such investors amounts to around Rs 4 crore, disclosed police, who are expecting some more people to lodge their complaints against Azim.
