PANJIM: The Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) of Goa Customs seized six gold bars weighing six kilograms valued at Rs 1.52 crore from the rear toilet of an Air India international flight on Tuesday, thwarting a major attempt to smuggle gold.
The six gold bars were hidden behind the toilet of flight AI-984 flying from Dubai-Mumbai-Goa. Coincidently, the last few raids and seizures were from the same flight.
The officers of the Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) at the Dabolim International Airport, Goa searched the Air India plane after intelligence inputs were received and recovered the gold bars. However, no person has been arrested as the gold bars were obviously unclaimed.
