MARGAO: The Margao Town Police cracked a major crime involving misappropriation of gold from Margao and arrested the accused with the valuable items.
The Margao Town Police arrested Shravan Nath, 30, from Kudal, Maharashtra when he was on board a bus going to Mumbai with the entire gold. He has been arrested for having robbed the parcel of gold biscuits and ornaments worth over Rs 55 lakh. He was working at a mobile phone shop near old Railway station.
The incident of the accused having robbed the gold came to light on April 28, when Sanjay Virdikar, complained that on April 20 at about 9.30 am near Uttam Mobile, Old Station Road, Margao-Salcete Goa, the accused person collected a parcel containing gold ornaments and gold biscuits and never delivered it to the party expecting the parcel.
The Parcel contained 2 gold bars of 100 grams each belonging to M/. Devkar, Margao, 6 gold bars of 100 grams each belonging to Sachin Salunke of Margao, several gold rings weighing 149 grams and gold bracelets of weight 150 grams come for Pawan S Raikar of Margao Goa, all worth Rs 55 lakh approximately. The complaint was filed after the accused who was asked to pick up the parcel and hand over to the shop failed do the same.
The accused has been charged with misappropriation, breach of trust and has been booked under Section 408 of IPC. The case was detected by the team of Constables and is presently being investigated by LPSI Sonam D Verenkar.
