Gold smuggling: Sri Lankan national denied bail

MARGAO: The Sri Lankan national, who was apprehended by the Customs while trying to smuggle 12 kilograms of gold into India at the Dabolim airport, has been denied bail.

MARGAO: The Sri Lankan national, who was apprehended by the Customs while trying to smuggle 12 kilograms of gold into India at the Dabolim airport, has been denied bail. 
While rejecting the bail application of Mohamed Zuhar, Additional Sessions Judge Vincent D’Silva observed that investigations into the case were still in progress and efforts on to apprehend the passenger, who had carried the gold from Dubai to Mumbai and the also the one who had escorted gold from Mumbai to Goa on the same flight. 
The Judge further said that investigation is still on to trace the kingpin of the entire transaction involving smuggling activities in India.
“The applicant, who is seeking bail, is even denying that he has given his statement under section 108 of the Custom Act, 1962 and that he has been forced to write the statement as dictated by the officers,” the Judge said, while rejecting his bail plea.
