VASCO: The Goa Customs on Wednesday recovered 720 grams of gold worth Rs 19.92 lakh from Air India flight AI-994. The gold was found in an unoccupied seat pocket of the Dubai-Goa-Bangalore Air India flight after its arrival at Dabolim International airport.
During a routine rummaging of the aircraft, Goa Customs found two small black pouches containing four cut gold bars from an unoccupied seat pocket of the aircraft. The officers of Air Intelligence Unit inquired about the ownership of gold from the passengers but since nobody claimed the ownership, the same was seized.
“It is a common practice adopted by the gold smugglers to outsmart the customs officer,” said G B Santimano, Additional Commissioner of Customs.
