VASCO: The Air Intelligence Unit of Goa Customs seized gold worth Rs 21.78 lakh from a domestic passenger at Dabolim International Airport who had arrived from Hyderabad in an Indigo flight.
The team was headed by Y B Sahare, Assistant Commissioner of Customs.
According to a press release by Commissioner of Goa Customs, the investigation revealed that smuggled gold was brought by an international passenger from Dubai to Kochi Airport and was purposely left in the flight with the knowledge that same will be carried from Kochi-Hyderabad-Goa on the domestic run.
The passenger, a native of West Bengal, picked the left gold in aircraft at Hyderabad, when alighting, the flight for Goa. But he was apprehended by Goa Customs with assistance Goa DRI officer. He was found in possession of four Aadhaar cards with different names. He has been arrested and further investigation is on. Goa Customs had busted a similar modus operandi in January this year.
