MARGAO: Margao Municipality lack proper management and system in place pertaining to the maintenance of its own vehicles which leads to several Municipal vehicles, including those in working conditions, lie deserted in the garage.
A newly purchased four wheeler for the purpose of revenue recovery is also lying idle on the garage for almost one month.
The locals of Margao now feel that more vehicles owned by the civic body will surely go to scrap if a system for their maintenance is not put in place.
Digging deeper, Herald discovered that there are nearly 10 vehicles in good condition that are just left parked in the garage.
Out of seven compactors only five are on the road, two were lying in the garbage, and now one is missing. The civic body has with them nine rickshaw. However, nearly six rickshaws are lying in the garage, out of which most are in working conditions, but kept ideal. It owns nearly eight vehicles of Tata-709, but two are lying in the garage. Vehicle with good condition and worth few lakh of rupees, which was dedicatedly used by Traffic Cell to lift the two wheelers are lying abandoned in the garage for last several months.
Sources further revealed that two night soil tankers, besides one ambulance donated under the MPLED funds, are in absolutely bad conditions owing to improper maintenance and usage.
The servicing centre of the Municipality is shut for last one year so there is no proper washing of vehicles.
At the recently held MMC meetin engineer was given a conditional approval regarding scrapping some old vehicles. “No proper system in place has led to the mess at the MMC garage. I have instructed the engineer to maintain a record book of all the Municipal vehicles, besides the details and statues of the vehicles,” said Lyndon Pereira, Chairperson MMC.
