PANJIM, AUG 10
Legal Metrology department has come down heavily on the rampant duplicate materials in the Goan market with a series of raids across the state.
The officials today seized duplicate household commodities from ‘Rajeshwar Agency’ store at Mala, to the tune of Rs 70,000.
Speaking to Herald, Controller N M Naik said that the action is a result of counterfeit materials multiplying in local markets. The household materials included water filters, heaters, LPG stoves and pipes, pans, lighters, LPG adapters, etc.
“The packages do not have complete address of the Company, MRP, manufacturing and expiry dates, and other mandatory details printed on it. We will continue our checks across the state,” Naik said.
The officer said that the incomplete details are in violation of the weight and measures rules, which are most often fake.
“We want that dealers, most of whom are out of Goa to know that we will not accept the duplicate materials. The company names printed on the packages are incomplete and hence fake…” he said.
