VALPOI: Taking serious note of the water-borne disease that claimed the lives of two residents of Pali-Sattari, the Sattari Mamlatdar convened a meeting of officials from various departments in Sattari taluka to take stock of the situation.
The meeting, presided over by the deputy collector, discussed the issue of Pali village in detail, where two persons died and many have taken ill in the last one week. Officers from Community Health Centre (CHC) Valpoi have been directed to submit a report regarding steps being taken to tackle the outbreak of water-borne diseases in Pali village.
All government departments also held a meeting chaired by Deputy Collector V Volvoikar to take stock of the preparedness to tackle the water-borne disease here at Valpoi Mamlatdar’s office
on Monday.
In the meeting, all officers from different departments were asked to ensure that necessary steps are taken to stop the epidemic and to report it to the Mamlatdar.
It may be recalled that two patients from Pali who were referred to the GMC Hospital by CHC Valpoi died in the last four days, leading to panic among the villagers.
During the meeting, CHC Valpoi Medical Officer Dr Shyam Kankonkar said they have taken all necessary action to tackle the situation. “The cause of death of Savitri Paryekar was not due to diarrhoea, but she died due to consolidation pneumonia and respiratory failure, and the death of Dhanu Sawant was due to kidney failure and high blood sugar level.”
“The health team carried out house-to-house visits in the village and have explained preventive measures to get rid of water-borne diseases and also conducted special OPD and advocacy programmes in the village,” informed Dr Kankonkar.
Deputy Collector Volvoikar has directed all the departments to intensify awareness programme related to preventive measures which could be taken by villagers to avoid diseases. “If people could bring changes in their lifestyle in villages, the village will be able to tackle water-borne disease more effectively,” he added.
The meeting was attended by CHC Valpoi staff, officials from various government departments including water resource department, Mamlatdar, ADEI, CDPO and BDO.
