PANJIM: There has been delay in granting extension of licences to private beach shack operators this year too as the Department of Tourism has not completed the allotment of traditional seasonal beach shacks.
“We have applied for permissions from the Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority (GCZMA) for extension of the licences since some have expired,” All Goa Private Shack Owners Association (AGPSOA) president Dharmesh Saglani told O Heraldo.
Travel and Tourism Association of Goa (TTAG) president Nilesh Shah said, “The government has not started the process of issuing licences to the private shack operators. We have requested the government to start the process. There is no issue as such but the process has been delayed. The Department of Tourism has said it will start the process of issuing the licence once they complete the allotment of beach shacks.”
According to Saglani, the fee for issue of licences is Rs 500 per square meter for restaurants and also Rs 500 per square meter for rooms.
There are around 500 shacks, set up in private properties adjacent to the beaches, which are also an attraction among the tourists visiting the State.
