PANJIM: The Congress criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party led government for imposing more and more taxes on the people of the state, accusing it of losing its ‘balance’.
Speaking at a press conference held in the city Saturday, state unit president, Subhash Shirodkar said taxes were raised “to make up the shortfall due to fall in mining revenues.”
Commenting on Parrikar government’s plan to levy entry tax on vehicles entering the state Shirodkar accused him of trying to destroy tourism.
“The entry tax is not a visionary decision…This tendency is not of a good administrator,” Shirodkar said, stating, “Anyone can be fooled once. But you cannot fool people again and again.”
CLP spokesman and Curtorim MLA, Alex Reginaldo Lourenco also criticized the BJP saying that before elections it was with those affected by illegal mining while on the other hand it took the help of those connected with it.
“They compromised with God and the devil,” he charged, arguing that there were a lot of issues in the state and that the BJP should not take people for granted.
Shirodkar also told media that when Congress come to power, “they would have to review the decisions taken by the present government.
When asked whether they would continue the apparent lackluster performance by his elected representatives during the previous assembly session, he first denied that they had not put up a good show as a responsible opposition and then said that they had put some 800 questions to be answered during the January 28th assembly session.
