Government not serious about restarting mining: Puti Gaonkar

Gaonkar asked the people to question the government on its fake promises and told them that until and unless there is no powerful mass movement, public issues will never be solved.

PONDA: The Goa Mining People’s Front (GMPF) leader Puti Gaonkar lashed out at the government for its failure to keep up to its word of resuming mining activities in the State.

“Six months have passed for the empty promises and mining activities have not yet resumed till date. The mining dependents have no choice but to take to the streets,” said Gaonkar.

He recalled that the Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and the Advocate General had assured the mining dependants about restarting mining by conducting auction within six months after the formation of the government but nothing has happened.

“The government needs to give us serious attention and really decide whether they want to resume mining activities or not. If you want to auction the ore, then do so immediately,” the GMPF leader said and reminded the government that even Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the LS campaign in 2019 had promised to restart mining in Goa.

Gaonkar asked the people to question the government on its fake promises and told them that until and unless there is no powerful mass movement, public issues will never be solved.

“The mining dependents should pressurise the government and take to the streets to come to the logical conclusion. The government that we have voted for has taken us for granted for the last ten years and it is time for us to wake up and shake up the authorities by taking to the streets,” said Gaonkar.
