Government Plans Law Change to Allow MLAs, ZP Members at Gram Sabhas

In a significant decision, the Goa cabinet has granted approval to amend the Goa Panchayat Raj Act, 1994, enabling MLAs and Zilla Panchayat members to attend gram sabha meetings in their respective areas. As per the amendment, these representatives can take part in deliberations but will be allowed to vote only if they are registered members of the gram sabha concerned. The government said the move is intended to strengthen grassroots governance and ensure better alignment between panchayats and elected representatives while maintaining the autonomy of gram sabhas.
