PANJIM: The State government has notified amendment to Goa Police Service Rules paving way for candidates with an upper age limit of 30 years to apply for the post of Deputy Superintendent of Goa Police.

As per the notification that ensued following approval of the Goa Public Service Commission in March 2022, 60 percent of vacancies to the Gazetted rank will be filled through promotion while 40 percent will be through direct recruitment.

“40 percent of the vacancies of Junior Scale which occur from time to time as per the strength of the service shall be filled by direct recruitment.

The remaining 60 percent of the vacancies of the Junior Scale shall be filled by promotion from amongst the officers who hold any of the posts of Police Inspector i.e. Police Inspector and Police Inspector (Armourer), including Police Inspector of India Reserve Battalions of Goa Police Department i.e. Police Inspector (Armed Police) on regular basis for a minimum period of five years under the government,” reads the notification by Department of Personnel.

For direct recruitment, a candidate should compete at the competitive examination besides complying with other conditions such as Indian nationality, should be at least 21 years of age and not more than 30 years, etc.

The upper age limit is, however, relaxed for government servants and other categories of persons notified by special order on this behalf, with a maximum age limit of up to 40 years.

For promotion, the government will prepare a combined eligibility list of officers in the rank of Police Inspectors who have served in the post for five years on a regular basis and seniority.

While direct recruitment will be conducted by the GPSC, the promotion of serving Police Inspectors will be examined by the departmental promotion committee following which the selected officers’ list will be forwarded by the Commission to the government for further action.
