PANJIM: Forest Minister Vishwajit Rane on Sunday said the government will take up the plantation of 1,500 mangroves as a part of the “Coastal Defence of Environment” by the Forest Department.
Rane made this statement during his visit to an unmanned island in River Mandovi along with the Forest Department officials and NGOs.
“We will not allow the destruction of mangroves at any cost. No project will be permitted, if it destroys the mangroves,” Rane told reporters, as he walked on the marshy unmanned island popularly known as “Mankulem Island” (small island).
