PORVORIM: To give a boost in the IT sector and to the ever-growing start-ups in Goa, the Government of Goa has decided to set up an incubation centre at Udyog Bhawan, Panjim. This should be ready for use by February 2016.
Speaking to Herald, the Secretary and Director of Department of Information Technology, Ms Shilpa Shinde said, “We will soon set-up a state of the art incubation center at Udyog Bhawan, Panjim which can be used by the start-ups as office space free of cost. The space will be provided with free net connection and it will help boost the IT sector in Goa.”
She added that, “Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC) and STPI have already started working to create this. They have been given a deadline of three months and we should see this new set-up for start-ups by February 2016.”
She also added that Goa is the first state in India to have broadband connectivity in villages and it happened way back in 2009 but it was not marketted well enough. “Similarly, Goa was also the first state to have its indigenous data center in 2008. However, the challenge before us is to integrate the e-governance system in Goa,” she added.
