Governor approves proposal to construct new Raj Bhavan

PANJIM: Goa Governor Sreedharan Pillai on Friday accorded his approval to the State Government’s proposal to construct a new Raj Bhavan.

The proposal, mooted by the Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant in July, last year, was declined by then Governor Satya Pal Malik terming it as ‘illogical and imprudent’, especially since it has come during a pandemic.

“Chief minister is kind enough to make a proposal before me for the new Raj Bhavan…Residence for the Governor…I would like to declare…since previously some objection from the Governor side was there…today publicly, I declare that new Raj Bhavan residence to the Governor…the proposal of the government is accepted,” Pillai said.

“Also, I would like to declare that this ancient and prestigious Raj Bhavan will be kept open for public,” he added.

Meanwhile, the Governor Pillai reiterated his decision to bring Raj Bhavan under the purview of the Right to Information (RTI) Act.

Earlier speaking, the Governor said that people are supreme in the democracy and the Governor, the CM, ministers, MLAs or LoO comes only after that and we are not ‘bosses’.
