Governor, CM, Archbishop extend New Year greetings

Governor Dr S S Sidhu, Chief Minister Digambar Kamat and Archbishop Filipe Neri Ferrao have extended warm greetings and best wishes to people of Goa and Goans settled elsewhere in the world, on the occasion of New Year 2011.
The year 2010 was a peaceful year in Goa on law and order front and internal security environment, the governor said. The State continued to maintain its traditional peace and tranquility, which has proved useful for the overall development and tourism in particular, he observed further. Governor has expressed hope that the year 2011 will also be another year of peace and harmony in the State.
The Chief Minister in his message said that like every new day, New Year dawns with new rays of hope and horizons. But since the State is celebrating Golden Jubilee Year of Goa’s Liberation, this year has special significance and the historic occasion has given new dimensions to the New Year celebrations.
In the last 49 years, Goa has marched ahead on the path of progress and the achievements of the State are remarkable. However, without remaining complacent over the success, efforts are being made to scale new heights of progress and prosperity, he said.
HERALD NEWS BUREAU ADDS: “As the New Year of 2011 dawns upon us we raise our hearts and minds to God in acknowledgement of His Providence which has guided humanity in the year gone by,” said Archbishop Ferrao in his message.
“It was an eventful year, which allowed us to deepen our experience of God amidst its ups and downs. As we welcome this one more year, may each one of us be aware that we are endowed with the sacred right to a full life, which includes also its spiritual dimension.”
“Without this openness to the spiritual reality, the human person withdraws within himself, fails to find answers to the heart’s deepest questions about the meaning of life, fails to appropriate lasting ethical values and principles, and fails even to experience authentic freedom and to build a just society,” Archbishop Ferrao added.
