Margao: Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat in a press release stated that the Governor Satya Pal Malikji assured him to take up the issue of the stranded seafarers with the prime minister and the external affairs minister to bring them home as soon as possible.
While thanking the Governor for his concern toward the Goan seafarers Digambar said his efforts will supplement the steps taken by Ayush Minister Shripad Naik and the Chief Minister besides the NRI Commissioner and added that collective efforts are required in these testing times.
Digambar called on the Governor on Friday when the assurances were made after he pointed out that difficulties faced by the stranded seafarers due to lack of medical facilities.
INC President Sonia Gandhi to raise this matter with Centre: GPCC Chief
Indian National Congress (INC) President Sonia Gandhi has assured Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) to take up the issue of Goan seafarers, who are stranded overseas, with the Central government.
GPCC President Girish Chodankar said the party, through video conference took up the issue of seafarers with Gandhi.
“During Video Conference meeting with State Presidents held today, INC India President Sonia Gandhi expressed deep concern about the condition of Goan seafarers,” Chodankar tweeted.
“INC Goa briefed her of the situation. She has offered to take up the issue with the Government of India,” he tweeted further.
