According to information, on seeing the photograph in Wednesday’s edition of Herald regarding contamination of drinking water at Caranzalem, near Raj Bhavan, the Governor asked for a reply.
“Accordingly, Principal Chief Engineer, PWD D J S Borkar along with the Executive Engineer, met the Secretary to the Governor, Shilpa Shinde, and informed the position,” says a release from the Directorate of Information.
According to Borkar, when the problem was noticed on Saturday, the department swung into action and disconnected the supply line, and provided water to the residents in the area through tankers.
He said that the old pipeline will not be used and instead, drinking water will be supplied to the residents through another new parallel line that is exisiting.
According to him, supply through the new line will be started within four days. “The Governor has been apprised of the position,” says the release.
