MARGAO: Governor Bharat Vir Wanchoo on Sunday said that the task of educating and empowering women is one of the most valuable social and economic aspect for the progress of society.
“Education undoubtedly gives power to women to help them stand on their own and become financially independent. But, without the supporting infrastructure and adequate opportunities, this power may not yield the desired results. Therefore, skill development among our women is an important requirement. Any kind of skill development and training imparted to women is critically important in their interest for achieving better living conditions for them,” the Governor said in his address after launching products manufactured by women under the banner of We for Fatorda’s Unnati at the Ravindra Bhavan.
He said that women in India have inherited an unbroken tradition of respect and glory with a unique and deep-rooted culture of their own. He, however, said that a considerable degree of backlog of social inhibitions is yet to be cleared to enable them to enjoy freedom and equality in letter and spirit.
Saying that women constitute 50 per cent of the country’s population, the Governor said “if we need to progress and develop at a fast space, then this 50 per cent of our population need to be active partners in this process,” while complimenting We for Fatorda for the bold initiative to create opportunities for the welfare of women through entrepreneurship.
We for Fatorda Managing Trustee Usha Sardesai said the organisation has set an agenda to bring about a change in the attitude and beliefs amongst women.
