PANJIM: Goa Governor, P S Sreedharan Pillai on Tuesday said he has scaled down the Independence Day party and is contributing Rs 6 lakh to the Kerala Chief Minister’s Relief Fund for Wayanad landslide victims.
He will also donate Rs 2 lakh from the Governor’s discretionary fund to the Kerala Chief Minister’s Relief Fund. He disclosed this while flagging off the Street Providence relief material truck with aid for Wayanad landslide victims.
“Every year we have an at home programme for celebrating Independence Day. This year, we have not decided to cancel the programme, since it’s a national day. But it will be scaled down. We can save Rs 6 lakh, which we will provide to the Kerala Chief Minister’s Relief Fund and I am giving additional Rs 2 lakh from the Governor’s Fund,” Pillai said.
The Governor further said, “We will stand with the people of Wayanad by ensuring no work is hampered for want of any assistance in any form and no one suffers too.”
Bosco George, former DIG and volunteer of Street Providence said, “Based on the appeals from Kerala, Street Providence is sending a truck loaded with 300 bed-sheets, 300 mats, 300 towels, 2,000 organic sanitary pads and various ration items. This is just our first lot. It is very encouraging that many other institutions have got in touch with us to raise funds and material, so that we can give it to the people of Wayanad.”
Mario Cordeiro, volunteer of Street Providence, is travelling with the team. “It is a great opportunity to reach out to the people of Wayanad through the people of Goa, who have donated to help the people in need.”
