MARGAO: While Goa Governor Dr Mridula Sinha welcomed the millennial children who will be participating in the electoral process for the first time in their life during the Lok Sabha polls, Chief Election Commissioner Sunil Arora vide a recorded message urged those who turned 18 on January 1, 2018 to register themselves to participate in the Lok Sabha elections.
Opining that elections should be a festival, Sinha said it ought to be treated as a duty and urged everyone to participate in the electorate process by going to the booth and casting their ballots. “Many changes have been brought about in the electorate process,” she said and pointed out that women in India had voting rights from the beginning.
She admitted that there were many wrongs taking place in the electoral process but they have been ironed out over the period of time. She said that it was important that the vote should be cast without any fear or inducement and not based on caste or creed.
Speaking earlier at the National Votes Day function, Chief Electoral Officer Kunal urged the voters to ensure that their names are there on the electoral roll. He said that the Election Commission has even come out with an App for android mobiles to check the electoral rolls.
