Govt accords top priority to bridges

Amidst the financial crunch facing the State, the State's Finance Ministry has given top priority to bridges as being crucial to development, while prioritising the works pending before the Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation.

PANJIM: Amidst the financial crunch facing the State, the State’s Finance Ministry has given top priority to bridges as being crucial to development, while prioritising the works pending before the Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation.

The long-due third phase expansion of CCP’s Panjim market also finds a place in the list of prioritised projects.

Of the initial proposal of 11 bridges, the GSIDC has got approval for undertaking construction of six bridges during the next financial year. These bridges include Shiroda to Rachol, Betim to Panjim, Amona to Virdi, Camurlim to Tuem, Keri to Terekhol and Chodan to Pomburpa.

The construction of the third phase of the Panjim market has also been given priority and has been cleared along with the six bridges which figured in the first list submitted to the Finance Ministry.

“We have already appointed a consultant for the bridges and the cost would be known once the reports are submitted,” said Dilip Joshi, Manager, GSIDC when contacted by Herald.

The Finance Ministry has also approved list of works to be taken up in the second phase which focus on infrastructure development in the health sector.

In the second list sent for prioritization and which has been approved, the GSIDC has got the nod for construction of a new community health centre at Tuem, community health centre at Cacora, reconstruction of TB hospital at GMC, a data recovery centre at Quepem, aviary at Bondla, bus stand at Curchorem and Ravindra Bhavan at Canacona. While these are new projects, the corporation has got the approval for another 13 works which involve reconstruction and upgradation.

These projects include rural health centre at Mandur, bus stand at Marcel, market complex at Pernem, office building for IT department at Altinho, community health centre at Shiroda, Joggers Park at Chicalim, government office complex at Bicholim, sanskruti bhavans at various places, multi-purpose hall at Socorro, restoration of Asilo hospital, panchayat complex at Chicalim, Goa College of Architecture.

Joshi said that a third list of works would be sent to the Finance Ministry for prioritisation and approval. All these projects are estimated to cost between Rs 300 and Rs 500 crore.
