PANJIM: Appealing citizens to raise their ‘voices’ for long term well-being of the nation, Founder of Isha Foundation Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev on Tuesday said that the government alone cannot save soil without people’s mandate.
The spiritual leader, who was in Goa, said that the world and governments are responding to the ‘Save Soil Movement’ but the work is not yet over and that the people’s responsibility has to be fixed.
Sadhguru stated that 80 countries across the world signed the declaration on soil conservation and have touched 3.2 billion people worldwide.
“In a democratic nation, it is not just your vote, your voice is important. This is not an agitation, a protest, or an expression of anger or resentment because every one of us, knowingly or unknowingly, have been partners in the destruction of soil,” he said.
“The only way around is that every one of us become partners in the solution. There is simply no other way. So, I request every one of you to keep your voices up for the safety and well-being of the soil. You need to assure the government that you are with them to save soil…for long term well-being of the nation,” Sadhguru said adding that people started looking at soil as a ‘resource’ than as a ‘source’.
Sadhguru said that governments are not elected to do fantastic things but are elected to fulfill people’s mandate.
“Five-year mandate is given to the government to do things …to impress us…if they fail to do, they are gone…vanished next time…,” he says.
“But where have the people given mandate for the long-term well-being of their State or nation? Unless you stand for the long-term well-being of your nation, the future of your children and the future generations, how can the governments invest in it? This is what the ‘Save Soil’ movement is about,” he explained.
