Govt appoints consultant to source funds from Centre for agriculture

PANJIM: The Goa government has appointed a consultant to source funds from the Centre for various centrally sponsored schemes for promotion of agriculture sector. 

The State has listed eight projects for availing Central funds, including rejuvenation of Khazan lands and creation of “AGRI Hub” for marketing of local agriculture produce. 

Darashaw and Company Pvt Ltd has been appointed as the consultant to coordinate with the Centre and secure funds under different schemes. 

Directorate of Planning, Statistics and Evaluation on February 10, issued mandate letter to the consultant for the preparing of DPR for securing funds from Centre and other related works of various projects proposed by Directorate of Agriculture under Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana- Remunerative Approaches for Agriculture and Allied Sector Rejuvenation (RKVY – RAFTAAR) in the State.

“The State Government along with the Department of Agriculture not only aims at self-sufficiency of the state in agriculture but also assures higher net income to our farmers through the introduction of effective and efficient techniques of farming and better utility of available resources in a sustainable way,” CMO said. 

The various projects proposed includes Honey bee (Stingless Honey bees) farming with a processing unit (Meliponiculture), Rejuvenation of Khajan Lands with agriculture and allied activities, creation of infrastructure of “AGRI- Hubs” along the Highways/District Roads/MDRs for marketing of local agriculture produce, Modernization of farms with facilities for training at Pernem, Mapusa, Sattari, Codar, Kalay, and Margao and Community Agriculture Infrastructure for protection of prime Agricultural lands/ areas. 

“Creation of Infrastructure of “AGRI- Hubs” proposed along the Highways/District Roads/MDRs for marketing of local agriculture produce and value-added products which will increase farmers’ income/profitability through facilities/ infrastructure for direct marketing,” CMO said. 

The government has also proposed to construct Annex Building at Krishi Bhavan, Tonca- Caranzalem for housing State Agriculture Management and Extension Training Institute, District Agriculture Office (North), Agriculture Technology Management Agency (North), Mechanical Cultivation Office Tiswadi, and Zonal Agricultural Office, Tiswadi.
