MARGAO: Tourism stakeholders heaved a sigh of relief as government approved 50 percent rebate on major touristic activities. A notification in this regard was released by the Department of Tourism on Monday.
According to the said notification, the stakeholders of touristic activities viz hotels (only ‘C’ and ‘D’ categories and home-stays), dealers, travel agents and tour operators, watersports activities, private shacks and private huts, photographers, tourist guides, deckbeds and umbrellas (hoteliers and unemployed youths, adventure sports activities, spice plantations who had renewed/registered their registration certificates during the financial year 2021-22 will get the benefit of 50 percent rebate. Those stakeholders who have already made full payment of their renewable fees for the said financial year will be adjusted against the fees payable for the subsequent year.
“The rationalisation in fee structure was introduced after decades. Since the renewal license fees were increased to manifold, we had requested the government to give some relaxation in fees since many of the touristic activities are going through the state of despondency owing to pandemic. In order to reduce the burden on touristic stakeholders, government decided to give 50 percent rebate on the renewal charges of major touristic activities. The order of the same has been issued,” said Rajesh Kale, Deputy Director of South Goa Tourism Department.
