PANJIM: The State Government has appealed to the employers and the employees of Commercial Establishment and Shops to resort to negotiations and settlement of their issues of payment during lockdown period.
The government further says that “If they are unable to settle by themselves they may approach the Office of the Commissioner, Labour and Employment and the respective sub-offices of the Labour Department for resolving the grievances of payment of wages during lockdown period”.
The Ministry of Home Affairs Government of India vide Order dated 29/03/2020 had directed the Commercial Establishment and Shops not to deduct wages of their employees during the lockdown period. The said Order was challenged by various employers in the Hon’ble supreme Court of India and the Court had given interim Order dated 04/06/2020 thereby prohibiting any coercive action against the employers for issues regarding payment of wages during lockdown period.
Thereafter the Hon’ble Supreme Court in its interim Order dated 12/06/2020 has directed that the employers and employees who are willing to enter into negotiation and settlement regarding the payment of wages during the lockdown period may negotiate and settle their disputes. Further if they are unable to settle the disputes by themselves they can submit request to the concern authorities.
