PORVORIM: Though the people of Bicholim are happy that mining has started, and some of the locals have got jobs, Bicholim MLA Chandrakant Shetye said there was fear among the people of Mulgao and Lamgao that their houses and temples would come within the lease area.
Shetye told the house during Question Hour that to his starred question, the answer given by the Mining Department was that they do not know who is the lease holder.
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant disclosed that the lease had gone to Vedanta and government would submit a petition in Court to keep out houses and temples in Mulgao and Shirgao after demarcating. No houses or temples will be affected CM assured. “We will demarcate the area and keep out the houses and temples. No house or temple will be affected. We will file an application in the High court,” Sawant assured.
