MARGAO: Attorney of Margao Comunidades Celestino Noronha lamented that the comunidades cannot do anything about the illegal houses on comunidade lands as their hands are tied due to no support from the administration.
“As attorneys we can do nothing without the backing and support of the Administrator and how can we get any support from an officer who is changed every three months and also as they are totally ignorant about the Code of Comunidades,” he said.
He pointed out that the Margao comunidade has been fighting against the 115 illegal constructions on its land at Talsanzor and the government has not given them any support or backing instead the administration appears to be backing the encroachers and illegal occupants of comunidade land.
Besides, he said, at Monte Hill there are around 150 illegal constructions and no action is forthcoming against any of them and pointed out that Monte Hill is recognized as the hub of all criminal activities in Margao and yet the authorities are not taking any action against the criminals.
He feared that the over 100 illegal houses constructed at Peddamol will also be not touched as the government is tacitly backing the illegal occupants.
