PANJIM: An undergraduate student of PES College, Farmagudi, was on Saturday arrested in connection with alleged drug peddling.
Crime Branch caught Ganeshan Gajinkar, from Raia with 100 gms ganja worth Rs 20,000 following a tip off that he would arrive at a particular spot with the illegal consignment. He has been arrested under relevant sections of the NDPS Act. The alleged accused is said to be third year student of BCom.
Crime Branch stated its officers have been keeping a sharp watch around colleges for any illegal and drug related offences.
On Friday Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar had expressed concern of drug abuse among youth.
Recently the Child Rights Commission had also expressed concern over rampant illegal activities in educational institutes.
In a draft report on ‘Mental Health Policy for Children & Adolescents for the State of Goa,’ the Commission observed that contraband substances have also reached the government educational institutes.
