PANJIM: Environment Minister Nilesh Cabral has warned that the government will strictly implement the ban on Plaster of Paris (PoP) idols during the ensuing Ganesh Chaturthi festival and fine or even imprison the violators if the need be.
Cabral said that all those who sell as well as those who buy the PoP idols will be dealt with a stern hand.
“The PoP idols are always banned and this time the implementation will be very strict. The Goa State Pollution Control Board, Police Department, District Collectors and Deputy Collectors will enforce the ban thoroughly,” he said.
The Power Minister said that 98 per cent of streetlights will be functional before Ganesh festival.
