Govt commences bandhara work at Murdi-Sonarbagh, imposes Sec 144 anticipating protest by locals

Despite opposition from the locals, the government commenced the work of Murdi-Sonarbaag Bandhara on Friday by imposing Section 144. A heavy police force was deployed on the construction site in the morning, anticipating protests by the locals. Even after imposing Section 144, a group of locals came together and opposed the construction.

The locals said that this is a flood-affected area, and almost 80 households get affected every year. In the case of Bandhara, more villagers will be impacted, which is why the locals have been opposing the project.

The WRD official, Shailesh Naik, informed that the project is worth 80 crores. He further said that the higher authorities have given the order to commence the work, and the entire project will be completed within the span of 2 years. The official further asserted that the locals were fully taken into confidence before initiating the work and that all the formalities have been completed.

However, the locals said that the officials during the PWD hearing were unable to convince them of the pros and cons of the project. Additionally, the residents stated that a resolution has been passed against the project, and even the NOC for the project has been revoked.

The enraged locals further alleged that this is a complete dictatorship of the BJP government and vowed to fight back against the project.
