MARGAO: Saying that the government has laid much stress on upgrading health care, Fisheries and Labour Minister Avertano Furtado on Thursday said the new South Goa district hospital would be commissioned very soon, while emphasis would be laid on improving the Margao Kadamba bus terminus.
Addressing the Independence Day celebrations after unfurling the national flag at the South Goa District Collectorate, Avertano said a new state-of-the -art ESI hospital would be opened shortly, adding that the government proposes to set up a similar hospital in North Goa. “Two new ESI dispensaries, one each in north and south were opened last month. Para-medical courses will begin by September this year,” he added.
Saying that the government was committed to generating employment for the youth, Avertano said the draft Goa industrial investment policy is ready and would help in creating employment opportunity after its implementation.
The function was attended by MLAs Caitu Silva and Rajan Naik, MMC Chairperson Arthur D’Silva, South Goa ZP chief Nelly Rodrigues, District Collector N D Agrawal, district police chief Shekhar Prabhudesai, councillors, freedom fighters, students and citizens.
While staff attendance for the Independence Day celebrations, both at the District Collectorate and Margao Municipal Council was near cent per cent, only three of the eight MLAs from Salcete attended the function at the Collectorate. Former chief minister Digambar Kamat, Mickky Pacheco, Reginaldo Lourenco, Vijai Sardesai and Benjamin Silva were conspicuous by their absence.
Meanwhile, Cuncolim talathi was honoured at the District Collectorate for his role during the July 2 Cuncolim floods.
