PANJIM: At the backdrop of rising crime against women, Governor P S Sreedharan Pillai on Saturday said the State government is committed to maintaining a safe and secure environment for Goans and tourists.
In his message on the eve of 75th Independence Day, the Governor urged the government and people to ensure that while aiming for the betterment of development in the State, it is important that forests and environment are protected.
He said the progress and prosperity of Goa can be attributed to the atmosphere of peace and harmony prevailing in the State.
“The people of Goa are renowned for their warm hospitality and social amity. The Government is committed to maintaining a safe and secure environment for its citizens and tourists,” Pillai said in his message.
The Governor appealed to the citizens to rededicate themselves to make Goa a better State and pledge to work wholeheartedly to realise the vision of Golden Goa.
Pillai said the State can take legitimate pride of the fact that it is reckoned among the most developed States in the country.
“Goa is reputed for its magnificent natural beauty, rich flora and fauna and vibrant culture that has attracted innumerable tourists from across the world,” he said.
“While aiming for the betterment of development in the State, it is important that we also protect our forests and environment,” he added.
Applauding the efforts put in by the Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant to combat COVID-19 pandemic, the Governor said the government is eager to revive the economy particularly the tourism and mining sectors once the pandemic subsides and is taking necessary steps in this direction.
He also applauded all the health workers and frontline warriors who have worked hard and tirelessly in the fight against COVID-19.
The governor announced that the first lane of the new Zuari Bridge will be opened in December 2021 while the work International Airport at Mopa is expected to be ready by December, next year.
