Govt decides to review RP 2021

The process of formulating RP 2021 had begun in October 2007 after a task force was formed.

PANJIM: Almost a decade after notifying the plan in a phased manner, the State government has decided to have a review of the Regional Plan (RP) 2021.

TCP Minister Vishwajit Rane said that the government will constitute a committee to examine certain aspects of RP 2021.

He said that although the plan was prepared by the experts, certain interesting facts have come to light that needs to be dealt with in detail.

“The concept of rationalisation used in RP 2021 needs to be examined. The plan has led to injustice towards many people,” Rane said while adding that all these aspects will be dealt with by the committee.

In 2012, following pressure from the public, the then Chief Minister late Manohar Parrikar had frozen the RP 2021 while promising to draft a new plan which never materialised. The plan, however, was not denotified.

The process of formulating RP 2021 had begun in October 2007 after a task force was formed. A draft RP was notified in September 2008, while the final plan was notified in a phased manner from November 24, 2010, to December 21, 2011, amidst objections from the NGOs and activists regarding errors in the plan.
