Govt discusses tech to help curb sand erosion along Salcete beaches

MARGAO: The State government is considering suggestions given to them, in a bid to tackle the sand erosion issue plaguing the beaches of Colva, Benaulim, Sernabatim and Mobor in Salcete taluka.

“We had a meeting with the Water Resource Department (WRD) with Minister Subhash Shirodkar and senior engineers, where we put forward these suggestions. We had given the government the suggestions earlier too when the Tourism Department had come to inspect the beach. Geotextile tubes can be introduced for shoreline protection and erosion control by acting as a permanent or temporary containment structure,” said Benaulim MLA Venzy Viegas.

The Environment and Tourism Departments have already started taking steps regarding sand erosion in the beaches of Mormugao taluka.
