Govt employee convicted for raping minor girl

Court directs accused to undergo one-year imprisonment and pay a fine of Rs one lakh

PANJIM: The Goa Children’s Court, Panjim sentenced a government employee to undergo one-year imprisonment and to pay a fine of Rs one lakh for raping a minor girl.

Goa Children’s Court president Judge Sayonora Telles Laad convicted R Divadkar under Section 354-A (1) (iii) of IPC to undergo imprisonment of one-year and under Section 342 of IPC to undergo six months imprisonment.  The Court convicted the accused under Section 8 of Goa Children’s Act and sentenced him to undergo one-year imprisonment and to pay a fine of Rs one lakh. 

The Old Goa Police had chargesheeted the government servant in 2018. The victim had complained that since 2013 to 2018 at her residence as well as at her house, the accused on different occasions showed her pornographic videos and his private parts. He further criminally trespassed in her house, confined her in the house and sexually assaulted her. 

The Court examined 10 witnesses. The case was investigated and chargesheeted by PSI Vijaynath Kavlekar.  Adv Anup Kudtarkar and Adv S Khot argued on behalf of the accused while, public prosecutors Francisca Noronha and T Narvekar represented the State.
