PANJIM: The Goa Government Employees Association (GGEA) has resolved to hold chain dharna in the capital city from November 16, demanding parity in pay scales to all categories of government employees.
In a joint meeting of the Working Committee and the Taluka Committees of the GGEA held on Saturday, it was also resolved to make a representation to the VIIth pay commission informing about the harassment meted out to certain section of government employees.
GGEA general secretary John Nazareth said that the demand of parity in pay scales had cropped up, when the state government in November 2009 granted higher pay scales to few selected category of employees in addition to the VIth Pay Commission. “Only certain sections are awarded with the increased pay scale while the remaining are deprived of it. We demand parity in pay scales,” he said.
The meeting which was attended by taluka chairman, vice chairman and secretary also took stock of the repeated delay in payment of salaries to the staff of Kadamba Transport Corporation and Goa Meat Complex.
The meeting resolved that Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar who is also the Finance Minister of the state should be approached and submitted a memorandum demanding timely payment of salaries for the employees, Nazareth said.
The issue of non-payment of patient care allowance to the drivers, laboratory technicians, pharmacists and blood bank technicians in the Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC) and Directorate of Health Services was also discussed. The members resolved that the matter be taken up before the government on priority basis and to work out strategies in settling their demand.
