Govt extends GSPCB term by three months

PANJIM: In a bid to maintain the continuity in the smooth functioning of the Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB), the State government has extended the term of the Board by three months. 

The-year-long term of the Board under Chairman Ganesh Shetgaonkar ended in December, last year. The government has already initiated the process to appoint a new Chairperson and Member Secretary (MS) of the Pollution Board. 

In a notification issued, Director Environment Dashrath Redkar has said that to ensure continuity in the functioning, the term of the existing Board is extended by three months with effect from December 15, 2021 or upto the date the Board is re-constituted. 

Meanwhile, in October, the Directorate of Environment invited applications for the post of Chairperson and MS, for which knowledge of environmental sciences and environmental management has been made mandatory. The candidate has to also be a resident of Goa for at least 15 years, and the knowledge of Konkani is mandatory while that of Marathi is desirable. 

According to new guidelines, there would be 19 members’ board instead of 16 members that includes Chairperson, MS and 17 members to be nominated by the State government to represent interest of agriculture, fishery or industry or trade and local authorities functioning within the State.

The recruitment would be done by the Selection Committee on contract or deputation basis.
