PANJIM, JULY 24 To arrest the trend of traditional occupations fading away, the government has decided to come out with a scheme to help sustain the occupational skills.

To arrest the trend of traditional occupations fading away, the government has decided to come out with a scheme to help sustain the occupational skills.
The Chief Minister Digambar Kamat said the government intends to operationalise a scheme to give financial assistance to such small entrepreneurs who are keeping the traditional occupations alive.
There are presently very few who are continuing with their trdtinal occupational skills. These include padeli, render, khajekar, fougeri, chanekar, podders, and others, he said.
He felt that some financial assistance would help them to sustain their occupation and provide an impetus for revival of these traditional skills.
The directorate of social welfare will work out the details of the scheme, he said adding that he has made a allocation of Rs 200 lakh in the budget.
DHANGARS: The government will bring out a comprehensive scheduled caste and scheduled tribe plan for initiating sectoral implementation of various schemes.
Similar schemes will be introduced for the benefit of Dhangars (goulys) of Goa, he stated.
Quepem MLA and GIDC chairman Chandrakant (Babu) Kavelkar has thanked the chief minister for the schemes.
TOURISM: To ensure that the beach safety scheme is carried forward, Rs 8 crore has been provided in the budget while for beach cleaning  Rs 3 crore provision has been made.
