PANJIM: In what could further delay the process of finalising the private forest areas in the State, the Government has now constituted yet another Review Committee to evaluate the private forests, provisionally identified by VT Thomas and Francisco Araujo, way back in 2012.
A review committee headed by Joint Secretary Revenue is already in place to assess the private forests identified by Sawant and Karapurkar Committee.
Now, in a fresh move, the government wants to review the provisionally identified private forest areas by the North and South Goa Forest Division Committees.
A Review Committee headed by Conservator of Forest has been constituted. The Committee has to submit its report by March 10, 2020.
The committee comprises of District Collectors, Directors of Settlement and Land Records, Agriculture, Assistant Conservator of Forest North and South and Deputy Conservator of Forest (working plan).
In December, last month, National Green Tribunal (NGT) granted final six weeks time to government to submit its report on private forests, while slapping an additional penalty of Rs 50 lakh for the delay.
