PANJIM/MARGAO: Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar used the opportunity of the launch of the Ujala Scheme to spell out a measure to cabinet colleague Milind Naik. Parsekar on Friday said usage of LED bulbs will help the State save up to 80 percent power, making the same available to industries. Naik had recently said that availability of power decides load supply to new industrial units.
Parsekar launched the scheme, under which three LED bulbs will be distributed free of cost to each of the 4.89 lakh consumers across the State. The government organized nearly 23 functions on Friday, wherein bulbs were given to the people at the hands of the Chief Minister, Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar, Union Minister for State of AYUSH Shripad Naik, Member of Parliament Narendra Sawaikar and other state ministers.
Speaking at the main funciton in Panjim, Parsekar said, “For industrial growth and investment, I would urge people to switch to LED bulbs in their houses to save power. We can divert that power to industries.”
The LED bulbs were distributed on Friday by Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar at Margao, Navelim and Fatorda. Three bulbs were distributed per bill, free of cost.
In Margao, the venue saw people waiting since morning to receive the LED bulbs.
Meanwhile, as a part of the scheme, Power Minister Milind Naik distributed over 2000 bulbs to the people at Laxminarayan temple at Headland Sada. Vasco MLA distributed over 2000 LED bulbs at St Andrew Church hall in Vasco. Similarly, Dabolim MLA Mauvin Godinho distributed similar quantity of bulbs at Santoshi Mata Temple in New Vaddem; and RDA Minister and Cortalim MLA distributed 2000 bulbs at Santadurga hall in Sancoale, on Friday.
