MARGAO: Confusion prevailed over the ‘data collection’ by the Crime Investigation Department (CID) after they approached Salcete churches asking for information about the priest in-charge and the managing committee.
However, Margao CID PI Uttam Raut Dessai played it down saying it’s not about churches but all institutions in Salcete and that it’s part of a state-wide activity. They were updating their information in case of emergency situations. He added that they are preparing a directory with all such contact details. CID offers intelligence inputs to police stations across the State.
Rachol Seminary based Fr Eremito Rebello wondered why CID officials did not come with a circular or anything in writing. He added they asked for contact numbers of the priest in-charge and two persons of the managing committee and similarly wanted to know details of other parish priests and Fabrica committee in-charge around Salcete. Fr Eremito said this was the first time such a thing has happened.
“This is not the first time. We are repeating the process. The data we have is old and we are getting fresh information not just of churches but from institutions and this is important from an intelligence point of view,” said PI Dessai.
