PANJIM: Criticizing State government’s Budget proposals, which include a hike in petrol VAT and other taxation, the Congress on Saturday alleged that in the last four years the BJP government has burdened the State with high inflation with faulty anti-people policies.
The opposition has challenged the BJP and its government to an open debate on its regressive rule and also on the anti-people Budget, which is directionless with no vision and non-growth oriented.
“The last four-years of the BJP regime have burdened Goans with high inflation due to their faulty programmes and policies. The bad governance has also pushed the State into a debt trap,” Congress spokesperson Adv Yatish Naik said.
Naik said that the Budget is a superficial and illusionary exercise especially in view of the government’s failure to present the Economic Survey. “It has been healthy tradition wherein the economic survey is tabled before the Budget. The BJP government has breached the tradition,” he said.
He questioned why the government is not disclosing the economic health of the State to people. Congress also criticized the government for the hike in petrol VAT from 15 percent to 22 percent, for increasing fees of conversion, mutation, vehicle registration, etc and also for its failure to create avenues for employment creation.
