‘Govt has no funds to maintain patrol boats’

PANJIM: The Trinamool Congress Party (TMC) media coordinator TrajanoD’Mello on Friday said that across nine coastal States, only Goa has proved to be a gateway for all illegal activities and alleged that the BJP government has no funds to maintain patrol boats.

Referring to the recently concluded nationwide sea vigil exercise by the Indian Navy, Trajano said that it was revealed that Goa’s coastal police did not have functional patrol boats. Despite having nine patrol boats, not one is functional. It is due to the government’s repeated and deliberate negligence. The Goa government spent more than Rs six crore on the swearing-in ceremony, which lasted only 10 minutes, and nearly Rs 10 crore on renovating ministers’ bungalows and cabinets, but there was no money for patrol boat maintenance, what is more important for the government — national security or personal interests?
