MARGAO: Stating that crores are spent on events, Leader of the Opposition Yuri Alemao on Thursday lamented that the intellectually bankrupt BJP government has no money to release advertisements and organise a State-level function to mark the beginning of Centenary of Great Goan, Dnyanpeeth Awardee Ravindrabab Kelekar.
Alemao said that he had reminded the government about the Birth Centenary Year of acclaimed Goan Konkani poet and writer Manoharrai Sardessai and Dnyanpeeth Awardee Ravindrabab Kelekar. It is sad that the government has ignored such tall icons of Goa.
Stating that it is the responsibility of the government to celebrate Goan heroes, he said the government has no right to ignore Goans while celebrating national heroes.
The Opposition Leader demanded that Chief Minister Pramod Sawant should stop his selective approach and perform his duties as Chief Minister and not as Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) Pracharak.
Yuri further said that he is happy that Governor P S Sreedharan Pillai accepted the fact that Ravindrabab’s Centenary starts in 2024 and accepted the invitation to be the chief guest for road naming ceremony at Priol on Thursday to mark the beginning of centenary of Ravindra Kelekar.
He urged the Chief Minister Pramod Sawant to seek advice from factually correct persons and stop making goof-ups on dates and years.
The government must immediately prepare a year-long programme to commemorate centenaries of Sardessai and Kelekar. This should include promoting their literature in other languages, organising literary meets, publishing their unpublished work and also giving them due recognition in the Goa Legislative Assembly Complex, stated Yuri.
