Govt ignoring Curtorim’s water woes: Reginaldo

Warns government that the people of Curtorim will have no option but to come on to the streets and agitate

MARGAO: Curtorim MLA Reginaldo Lourenco has criticised the government for the utter neglect of Curtorim constituency in addressing the water shortage facing the people.
To add insult to injury, some of the residents have received hefty water bills running into thousands of rupees for no fault of theirs.
Addressing the media, Reginaldo said the government has neglected Curtorim in addressing the water shortage plaguing the constituency. “There’s a water tank built at Manzon-Curtorim over the last one year, but residents are yet to receive water from the tank till date. An amount of Rs four crore was spent on the water tank, but the government is dilly dallying in supplying water. The tank may develop cracks if water is not stored in it”, he said.
Similarly, the Curtorim MLA pointed out that water problem is being felt at Bagbhat-Raia, Housing Board and Maina, but there’s no response from the PWD officials till date.
He warned the government that the people of Curtorim will have no option but to come on to the streets and agitate since the summer season will set in a month from now.
Meanwhile, a resident of Cura-Raia Fatima D’Silva told the media in the presence of the Curtorim MLA that she is in receipt of a water bill amounting to Rs 20,732. The bill pertains to a period from January 2014 to January 2015.
Similarly, a resident of Curtorim Francis informed that he has received a water bill amounting to Rs 23,000 for a seven-month period.
Reginaldo demanded to know from the PWD whether the department has any justification for the hefty bills, even as he urged upon the officials to rectify the defects and give relief to the consumers.
