Govt imposes restrictions on public gatherings during festivals

PANJIM: In view of the rising number of COVID-19 cases in the State, the State government has imposed restrictions regarding public gatherings during the festivals like Easter, Holi, Navaratri, Eid & Shab-e-Barat etc

Under Secretary (Health) Gautami Parmekar, in an order issued on Friday evening, noted that there is a fresh surge in COVID-19 cases in some parts of the country and that the situation might further aggravate in view of the upcoming festivals such as Holi, Shab-e-Barat, Easter and Eid-ul-Fitr etc anticipating gatherings, congregations and public celebrations.

She also pointed out that the State government has issued various orders/instructions from time to time to all authorities to take all the required measures to deal with the situation appropriately.

“Now therefore, in terms of Section 2(1) of the Epidemic Diseases Act, 1987, in order to contain further spread of COVID-19 during festivities such as Holi, Shab-e-Barat, Easter and Eid-ul Fitr etc, the government hereby imposes local restrictions in observations of these festivals as contained in the SOP of Ministry of Health and Family Welfare,”she says in the order.

“Further, all the authorities concerned shall ensure that public celebrations and gatherings, congregations during these upcoming festivals like Navaratri, Holi, Shab-e-Barat etc, shall not be allowed in public places, grounds, markets etc in the State of Goa,” she adds further in order. 

The South and North District Collectors/Superintendents of Police (SPs) have been directed to ensure compliance of this SOP and other instructions issued by the government from time to time.
